Fall Guys is a multiplayer arcade game that makes your funny little avatar dressed in a ridiculous costume run around one of its many levels full of strange obstacles with only one goal – to be the last one standing.
Graphics and Sound 8/10
Fall Guys features an intentionally cartoonish visual style with brightly colored levels, cute surroundings, and goofy characters dressed in hilarious costumes. However, that suits the game rather well, and the graphics are actually not that primitive – the shadows, reflections, and lighting effects are smooth and detailed. The sound design is also pretty smart since all of the funny sounds the characters make only add something to the game’s absurd atmosphere.
The controls are incredibly simple – you just run around with your WASD keys, jumping, and moving objects around. You don’t even need to use a mouse since the camera is smart and moves around to provide the best view. However, a gamepad is still recommended for an even better experience – it’s an arcade game, after all.
The gameplay can be described as a massively multiplayer free-for-all arcade madness that supports up to 60 players at once. You control a goofy character that must run around, avoid various obstacles, and solve puzzles to get to the end – and to be victorious, you have to do that quicker than others. However, there are also some cooperative challenges in which players have to help each other in order to achieve a common goal. The game features an advanced physical engine that makes obstacles and puzzles more realistic and funnier, and there’s a variety of customization options for your small avatar.
Lasting Appeal 7/10
Fall Guys is hilarious and random, and that’s what makes it pretty replayable. There are lots of levels, and the developers tend to add a couple of completely new challenges with each update. But once you’ve played them all for about a dozen times, they start to become somewhat repetitive, and the speed with which new challenges appear is not high enough to smooth that out.
- Memorable visual style
- Advanced physics engine
- Up to 60 players at once
- Hilarious gameplay
- Lots of challenges
- Gets repetitive eventually
- Connectivity problems
